Flexmeter wrist guards
Choose well. Get the fit right.

A wrist guard should feel comfortable, stay in position and work with the gloves you wear. We explain the differences between Flexmeter Single and Double, with practical advice drawn from years of helping customers in our winter sports shops.

Single or Double: a difference in construction

Both models have a flexible protective splint running from the back of the hand, across the wrist and towards the forearm. Three adjustable straps hold it in position. Single has one protective splint on the back of the hand; Double adds a palm-side splint and D3O® padding. Single and Double refer to the number of protective splints.

Flexmeter Single wrist guard with a flexible protective splint on the back of the hand and adjustable straps

FL132

Flexmeter Single-Sided

Flexmeter Single leaves the palm free, giving you more room to grip a ski pole or bicycle handlebar. In our experience, its slimmer construction fits under many snowboard gloves and mittens. Always try your own combination: hands, gloves and individual fit vary.

Flexmeter Double with a protective splint on the back of the hand, palm piece and D3O palm padding

FL292

Flexmeter Double-Sided With D3O

Flexmeter Double has protective splints on both sides of the wrist, with a palm piece and fixed D3O® padding at the palm. It takes up more room inside a glove, particularly around the wrist, back of the hand and palm. Trying everything on together is the best way to avoid buying gloves that do not fit.

Flexmeter wrist guards cushion minor impacts and help reduce superficial injuries in minor falls. Follow the instructions for your model. These products are not designed to prevent fractures or other serious injuries.

Choose your size, then check the fit

Start with the sizing information for your chosen model in the shop. Then check the actual fit: the protective splint sits correctly at the wrist, the guard does not twist and your fingers stay free. Do not choose a larger wrist guard simply to make room for gloves; the guard itself needs to fit securely.

01 · FIT

How a Flexmeter should sit

Take a little time when trying them on for the first time. Position the protective splint correctly before adjusting the straps.

  1. The flexible protective splint goes on the back of your hand

Slide your hand in and gently pull the wrist guard into place. The thumb opening sits at the base of your thumb. The long, flexible protective splint runs from the back of your hand, across your wrist and towards your forearm.

  2. Fingers free, bending section at the wrist

The protective splint reaches to your knuckles or just beyond them, leaving your fingers free to move. Its flexible bending section sits at the wrist joint so it can move with your wrist.

  3. Secure without squeezing

Fasten the wrist strap first, then the other straps. The wrist guard should not twist or slip. Tighter is not automatically better: loosen the straps if you notice pressure, tingling or numbness.

  4. Check again with your gloves on

Put your outer gloves or mittens over the Flexmeters and check the fit again. Move your fingers and calmly test whether you can grip and operate your equipment securely. The gloves must not push the protective splints out of position.

02 · FAQ

Gloves, cold weather and useful habits

Small details often make the difference. Here are the questions we hear most often and the fitting tips we use in practice.

Why do some children prefer wearing the Single?

In our experience, some children find the Flexmeter Single more comfortable because it leaves the palm freer. That can make them more willing to put it on and keep wearing it during their sport. For parents, this is worth considering when choosing a model with their child.

If possible, let your child try both versions with the gloves they will wear. Choose only a size that fits properly: the wrist guard must not twist or slip, and the fingers must remain free to move. For children too, the actual fit matters more than the size label alone.

How do I try gloves on with Flexmeter?

Take your Flexmeters with you when buying gloves or mittens. Try them on together, with the straps already correctly adjusted. In our experience, Single fits under many snowboard gloves; Double usually needs more room. A different cut or sometimes one size larger can help, provided the glove still fits well and you can grip securely.

For Double, roughly two fingers of extra room around the wrist, back of the hand and palm can be a useful starting point when checking gloves you already own. Then try everything on together: the glove should feel comfortable, your fingers should move freely and the Flexmeter should stay in place.

What are the benefits of separate wrist guards?

In our experience, snowboard gloves and mittens often need replacing sooner than Flexmeter wrist guards. With separate guards, you can then replace just the worn gloves, provided your Flexmeters remain fit for use under the instructions. This can save money when it is time for a new pair of gloves.

You also have more choice of gloves. You can choose the warmth, material, fit and price that suit you, without being limited to models with built-in wrist protection. Take your Flexmeters with you when trying on gloves. The combination needs to fit comfortably and leave enough room to move.

Can I wear thin liner gloves underneath?

A thin thermal liner can be comfortable in cold weather, as long as the Flexmeter still fits properly and its bending section stays at the wrist. Put the liner on first, adjust the wrist guard, then wear your outer glove or mitten over it. Watch for seams or folds that press under a strap.

Thick gloves or mittens do not belong underneath the Flexmeter. They can interfere with its fit and position. Choose a thin inner layer and check the whole combination again whenever you change gloves.

What about thin cut-resistant or abrasion-resistant gloves?

Such a glove may also be thin enough to fit underneath. Choose it according to the glove manufacturer’s stated properties, then check its fit with your Flexmeter. Cut or abrasion resistance belongs to the glove itself; not every thin glove has those properties.

We often hear this question from ice skaters. Check what the glove is designed for: a description such as “cut-resistant” does not automatically mean it is suitable for contact with a skate blade. Read the glove manufacturer’s information and follow your Flexmeter instructions too.

Can I hold ski poles or handlebars with Single?

Single leaves your palm free, giving you more room to grip a ski pole or handlebar. Try it with your own equipment and gloves. You need to be able to hold on securely and operate the brakes and any gear controls without difficulty.

Where does your experience with ice skating come from?

We have carried Flexmeter since 2003, initially through Docmeter in France. Alongside winter sports, customers have shared experience on the ice over the years, including with Double. That is why our advice also considers warmth, liner gloves and the space the combination needs.

We bring that practical experience to our advice on fit and comfort. Refer to the current manufacturer instructions for your model’s intended use and limitations.

How do I stop the straps catching on clothing?

Close the hook-and-loop fastenings when storing or transporting your wrist guards as well as when wearing them. Let the guards dry fully first. This helps prevent the hooks snagging a jacket, lining or other clothing. No special transport packaging is needed.

Any tips for the ski lift?

If you take off your gloves or wrist guards, put them somewhere secure straight away. Do not leave them loose on the seat or your lap. Make a quick belongings check part of your routine before getting off.

How do I clean Flexmeter?

Follow the Flexmeter instructions: hand wash with mild soap at no more than 30 °C. Allow to air dry fully, away from direct sunlight, radiators and heaters. Do not use a washing machine or tumble dryer. The D3O padding in Double is fixed and stays in place during cleaning.

Check the protective splints, straps, fastenings and stitching before use. After a heavy impact or if you find damage, follow the replacement instructions in the manual.

Flexmeter with us since 2003

We have carried Flexmeter since 2003. Our relationship began with Docmeter/Skimeter in France. As a distributor in the Benelux countries and Germany, we helped introduce the wrist guards to customers, including through our Dutch and German winter sports shops. When Demon United began producing Flexmeter, we continued selling and distributing its models, which build on the original Flexmeter concept from Docmeter/Skimeter. Our relationship expanded to include other Demon products through our work as an importer and distributor in Germany. The experience we have gained since 2003 shapes our advice today. We help customers choose a model, check the fit and look after their wrist guards, taking time to consider the combination they want to wear.

Read these instructions before use and keep them for future reference.

1 · Use and construction

Flexmeter Single (FL132) and Double (FL292) are wrist guards sold as a pair. Wear them under gloves or mittens.

Both models have a flexible protective splint along the back of the hand, wrist and forearm, with three adjustable straps. Double adds a palm-side splint and D3O® padding. The bending section moves with the wrist.

They are designed to cushion minor impacts and help reduce superficial injuries, such as scrapes, abrasions and bruising, in minor falls.

2 · Putting on and adjusting

Choose a size that fits securely.

  1. Slide your hand into the guard with the flexible splint on the back of your hand. Gently pull it into place with the thumb opening at the base of your thumb.
  2. The splint reaches your knuckles or just beyond, leaving your fingers free. Align its bending section with your wrist joint so it can move with your wrist.
  3. Fasten the wrist strap first, then the others. The guard must not twist, slip or squeeze your hand or wrist. Loosen the straps if you feel tingling, numbness or uncomfortable pressure.
  4. Put your gloves or mittens over the guards. Do not wear the guards over thick gloves or mittens.
  5. Check the fit again: the guards must stay in position, your fingers must move freely, and you must be able to grip and operate your equipment safely.

The palm piece on Double is removable. To refit it, align it with the shaped hook-and-loop area and press firmly into place. The D3O® padding is fixed and stays in place.

(PlayTrend tip: thin liner gloves can be comfortable in cold weather. Use them only if the guards still fit securely without twisting or slipping. Check the position of the splints and check the fit again with your outer gloves or mittens on.)

3 · Safe use

Do not use with motorised vehicles, for professional or occupational use, or for activities requiring a higher level of protection.

Choose activities that match your abilities and do not take extra risks because you are wearing wrist guards. Flexmeter helps reduce superficial injuries in minor falls; it is not designed to prevent fractures or other serious injuries.

Use your own pair and do not pass used wrist guards on to someone else.

4 · Cleaning and storage

Hand wash with mild soap and water at a maximum of 30 °C.

After use or washing, allow the guards to air dry completely in a dry, well-ventilated place, away from direct heat and sunlight.

Do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron, bleach or dry clean. Do not use solvents or dry on a radiator or in front of a heater.

Store dry and flat, out of direct sunlight. Close the hook-and-loop fastenings for storage and transport to prevent them catching on clothing. No special transport packaging is required.

5 · Inspection and replacement

Service life depends on use, care and storage. Before each use, check the protective splints, straps, hook-and-loop fastenings and stitching. Replace the wrist guards if you find cracks, breaks, permanent deformation, failed stitching or fastenings that no longer hold securely. Replace them after a heavy impact, even if no damage is visible.

Do not alter the product, cut the protective splints or replace the straps with other parts. Contact Demon if you are unsure about damage or replacement.
